Tall Grass

This is a painting that I completed on my Thanksgiving weekend away.  It felt good to focus on my painting for a few days.  The painting makes me think of running through tall grass with my family.

This is the cake I made for Claire's 2nd birthday.

The Beauty of Grey

I wanted to challenge myself to paint with grey.  Grey is a mysterious colour.  It looks void of colour and yet it is made up from a mix of bright blue, red, yellow and white.  If you have too much grey, it makes all other colours look muddy.  It is like a metaphor for life, too much grey can overshadow all the brights and joys in life.  Just a little grey or darkness, helps you appreciate the bright times in life.

painting birthday party

One of my friend's asked me to run a painting party for her 6 year old little girl.  I showed the kids how paint can be magical and change into other colours when mixed together.  They all had a turn painting on a mural and painting their own little canvases.  It was very rewarding when I was able to encourage a shy little boy to paint when all the others were out of the room.  He sat and painted a beautiful picture and was so proud to show everyone.  It was fun to see little creative minds at work.

Smurf Cake

I haven't been able to paint in a while but Chris requested a smurf cake for his birthday. So I painted with icing and it was fun!

Vision Board Session

I ran another vision board session a little while ago with a great group of people at the Eastside Yoga Studio.  Everyone came away with a creation to take home.

Waves of Sorrow

We lost a loved one this week.  Grief and sorrow seem to come in waves and are interspersed with moments of joy.  The joy comes in every day things such as our children singing, playing and dancing around.  I think our daughters sence the sorrow in the house but they are also able to have moments of joy in their play.

Apron

I haven't had much energy for painting this week so I made an apron for Claire's daycare teachers since she is moving to the toddler room.

Earth tones

Working with earth tones is very soothing for me.  Painting every day has made me realize that you don't have to have the perfect studio set up.  You can really paint anywhere.

Flow

This painting is another one that I completed on a weekend away.  I am trying to paint more with red instead of always gravitating to blue.

Hope in the darkness

I have been working on this painting for a long time and I finally finished it yesterday.  It started off with really dark reds in the background.  We have a lot of stress going on in life right now so it symbolized the darkness in the house.  I decided to take some of the darkness away and add light on top to give hope.  The darkness is still there in the background but there are moments of light and happiness in life as well.

First of the painting every day series....

I did this painting last night and it was really fun to do.  I am trying to keep my style loose and relaxed.

Tranquility painting

This painting is called Tranquility and it was made on a painting weekend away.  It feels like waterfalls to me and the colours are calming and relaxing.

Welcome

Hello and welcome to my blog.  I started a blog so that I could share my paintings and thoughts on the creativity process along the way.  During lent I am going to paint every day for the 40 days before Easter.  I hope you enjoy my paintings.
